How to Use Keepfolio
Keep the numbers and expiry dates of your passports, licenses, accounts and more, on your iPhone only.
Creating a card
- Tap "+" at the bottom of the home screen and choose a category. Each category comes with a template, so just fill in the empty fields and save.
- Fields you leave empty are removed when you save.
- For family passports and similar items, tap "Add Another" to add a matching set and keep everyone on one card.
- Three categories are shown at first. Use "Edit" at the top right, or "Categories for New Cards" in Settings, to add up to 16 including Memo.
Home
- The App decides the size and order of cards automatically. There is no manual reordering.
- Open a card and tap "Pin" to keep it at the top.
- Use the magnifying glass at the bottom to search.
Viewing and copying
- Tap a card to open it. Tap the copy mark to the right of a line to copy that line.
- Numbers are copied without spaces or separators.
- Copying takes the whole line. To give a line a label such as "Account number", write the label on a separate line and mark it with "Label" in the bar above the keyboard.
- Touch and hold a card to go straight to editing.
Show it large
Touch and hold a line in an open card to show it large, full screen in landscape. Use it to show a number at a counter or read it out on the phone. Digits are grouped in threes or fours, and the group you tap is highlighted.
Protection
- While writing a line in the editor, turn on "Protect" in the bar above the keyboard, and the line is hidden behind dots.
- To see it, tap "Show with Face ID". Once you pass, you can view that card for 60 seconds without being asked again.
- When you copy a protected line, the copy stays on this iPhone only and is cleared after 60 seconds.
- Contents are hidden while the screen is being recorded and in the app switcher.
- Protected lines can't be opened if your iPhone has no passcode.
Expiry dates and the icon badge
- Expiry lines show the time remaining with a short bar and "x months left". They turn orange as the date approaches and red once it has passed.
- The App icon shows the number of dates that are coming up, due today or past. No sounds or banners.
- You can change when each expiry line starts counting. Lines set to "Don't Notify" are not counted.
- Dates with only a month (such as a card's expiry) are counted to the last day of that month.
Phone numbers
- Type just the digits and separators are added automatically. Start with "+" to enter a number in that country's format.
- Tap the phone button in an open card to call. In Settings, "Phone Button" can be switched to "Copy Number".
Attachments
- Use "Attach" in the editor to add PDFs, photos or scanned documents, up to 20 MB each.
- You can also choose Keepfolio from the Share menu in Mail or Safari to add a file to a card.
- Each attachment can be protected. Protected attachments ask for Face ID when opened.
What search finds
Search looks at card titles, headings and lines, attachment file names, and the text inside PDFs that are not protected. Protected lines and the contents of protected attachments never appear in search.
Export and import
- "Export" in Settings puts all your cards into one file locked with a password. If you forget the password, the file can't be imported.
- "Import" adds cards without removing the ones you have. Cards that already exist are not added twice.
What not to store
We recommend keeping passwords, credit card security codes and PINs in a dedicated tool such as iPhone's Passwords app.
